Parents,

Below you will find a quick summary of what is going on in Portable 2. First, please take note of these quick reminders. Please remember to check student agendas and homework every night. Also, the Gibson Holiday Food Drive has just started and the class with the most donated cans will win a pizza party! I’m sure your students will encourage donations. Finally, the Character Trait of the Month is KINDNESS!!! Please use this topic as a way to develop our students into model citizens.

Fifth Grade

In Math, the Fifth Graders are currently working on division with 2-digit divisors. Students have homework almost every single day and it is important that they practice the skills they have learned during the day. Please check that they have completed this correctly.

In Science, the Fifth Graders have completed a number of investigations and labs recently. Our current topic is changes of state and physical and chemical changes. Ask them about the “Warm Water/Cold Water Dissolving Lab” or the “Melt, Boil, Evaporate Lab.” Both of these were completed recently and your students even completed lab reports on them in their Science Journals. A reminder that the typed Science Lab Report Project is due on Tuesday October 18th.

In Social Studies, we are currently learning about the life and culture of early Native Americans. We are also learing about how the ideas of kindness can help us become better people.

Fourth Grade

In Math, the Fourth Graders are currently learning about expressions and number patterns. Students have homework almost every day and it is always on the topic that they discussed in class. Please be sure that students are completing this work correctly. It is important to practice these ideas on their own at home.

In Science, the Fourth Graders are finishing up the states of water and about to begin a unit on magnets. Please ask your students about the different labs that they have been working on in class. Some recent labs that we have worked on in class include “Mass Before and After Cutting a Clay Ball into Pieces” and “Melt, Boil, Evaporate.” I encourage you to ask your students what is going on in class because they are always working hard on something new.

Please feel free to e-mail me at any time.
